Initiatives

Misr Cement Group and all its business units are committed to operating their facilities while adhering to sustainable practices that ensure the least amount of harm to the environment. Part of the group’s environmental responsibility is to actively work to safeguard and replenish the environment in Upper Egypt where its facilities are located.

More than 70,000 trees have been planted by the group, with the aim of reducing CO2 in the atmosphere, and providing a home to local and migrating birds.

Cement waste is safely discarded of in a sanitary land fill where waste is isolated from the environment until it is safe (completely degraded biologically, chemically, and physically), known as by-pass dust.

Air is filtered by placing antistatic filers next to dust sources at a height of 130 m. Fine dust emissions are recaptured and recovered in large quantities and recycled as a raw material.

Water waste is prevented by using a closed-circuit industrial cooling process for the water.

Waste-water is treated and used to irrigate the trees within the grounds of the facilities, with a daily volume of 150 cubic meters.

Occupational
Health and Safety

The health and safety of Misr Cement Group’s employees are by far the number one priority at hand, with meticulous health and safety measures in place to ensure a secure and sound work environment. Staff partake in thorough training programs in health, safety and environment (HSE) to conduct operations efficiently and safely while complying to rules and regulations that are in place to eliminate risk of workplace incidents. Employees of Misr Cement Group are also trained to identify risk possibilities in the work place and to report to the HSE committee who immediately takes the necessary action to eliminate that risk.

Corporate
Social Responsibility

As part of giving back to the communities that surrounds the group’s various facilities and plants, Misr Cement Group actively contributes to serve the communities in Qena, Luxor, Aswan and Sohag through an integrated corporate engagement strategy addressing occupational health and safety, climate change, and community development. The group also supplies cement products to the construction of hospitals and schools in these cities, and organizes and dispatches medical convoys.
